My First 2 Weeks as a Metatherapy Intern: Day in a life of an Intern

Hello, my name is Lilian and I am Metatherapy’s new intern! A little bit about me: I am a 2020 kinesiology graduate from the University of Ottawa and am currently in a post-grad program at Humber College studying Exercise Science & Lifestyle Management. I am an avid rock climber, former competitive badminton player and hope to pursue as career in physical therapy.

2 week ago, I commenced my internship at Metatherapy. I chose Metatherapy to do my internship due to its top-notch patient ratings, state-of-the-art therapeutic and performance equipment, and its appeal to the athletic and active population. During my first week of interning, I had the opportunity to meet all the amazing therapists and staff and got to know a little more about them. I learned to perform the various clerical, admin and maintenance duties that is vital for the clinic to run smoothly and ensure the practitioners are able to meet their next patient on time. These past 2 weeks have been a great introduction to the next 2 month of being an intern at Metatherapy and I am thrilled to learn and gain more experience within the field!

Without further ado, here is my life as a Metatherapy Intern!

9:45am: Beginning of internship! Starting with maintenance duties such as compiling and taking out garbage, washing or folding laundry, cleaning therapy rooms

10:00am: Prepping steamer to steam/clean gym equipment, vacuum gym area

10:15am – 3pm:

  • Shadow practitioners and their appointments with patients throughout the day

  • Assisting practitioners with grabbing equipment, cleaning beds in between appointments, charting…

  • Other duties:

o Doing laundry on the go

o Refilling sanitization bottles

o Aiding with administration duties

o Sanitizing therapeutic instruments, equipment, and tools

And that wraps up a day as a Metatherapy Intern! I have learned a lot in the last 2 weeks, and I am very excited to continue my internship for the next 2 months. Talk soon!
