Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a great non-surgical alternative for conditions which cause chronic pain such as tendinitis. At METATHERAPY, we provide shockwave therapy because it’s one of the most modern treatments for chronic pain and rehabilitation.

At METATHERAPY we use shockwave therapy which is a great, non-surgical way to treat chronic pain. Shockwave therapy uses rapid frequency vibration, often called RPW to treat areas which are inflamed and in pain. These high-frequency bursts of mechanical energy increases blood flow, reduces muscle spasms and is known to decrease pain.

The Treatment

Shockwave therapy is applied in sessions and is designed to accelerate healing while decreasing pain. Shockwave therapy stimulates cells which promotes growth and energy within the cell. The treatment also stimulates blood flow, caused more blood to reach the affected area which accelerates the healing process. Shockwave therapy also decreases muscle tones and spasms, ensuring that pain is decreased.

Depending on the condition being treated, shockwave treatment is usually done once a week for 3-6 weeks. The treatment can produce some mild discomfort, but it only lasts 3-4 minutes, and the intensity can be adjusted to keep it comfortable. There is also some noise with the treatment from the mechanical pulse, ear plugs can be used if there are any sound sensitivities.
