Hi, my name is Atchaya and I am a third year Kinesiology student who has had close to
zero experience in any rehab facility / situation, unfortunately the majority of what I have learned is mainly through textbook scenarios and situations. Being able to start a co-op opportunity at MetaTherapy, I am able to expand on this and explore my options with one of the more advanced and organized rehab centers and ultimately gain hands-on experience over the course of the next 4 months.
My first day at Meta-Therapy started with being shown the ropes, the do’s and don'ts,
and my basic requirements that are to be seen from me and ended with being able to shadow a part of a session with one of the physiotherapists; Bentzen Takyi. During the session I was shadowing it was interesting to see the concepts I had learned in certain classes; like exercise prescription, being played out strategically with clients. I was able to see so many different factors play into one session such as intensity, frequency, sets, reps, breaks, form, and different exercises. Being able to shadow a client-therapist interaction has strengthened my understanding of concepts, which is definitely something I can take with me and apply back to school.
As I continue my co-op here for the next couple of months, I am looking forward to
seeing what other opportunities I can gain from Meta - Therapy!
